The short answerWork down six settings before you blame anything. Most 'no signal' complaints close somewhere in that list, usually in the first two.
Wi-Fi Calling on — calls ride your broadband and walls stop mattering.
4G Calling (VoLTE) on — essential since 3G closed across 2024 and 2025.
Airplane mode for ten seconds — forces a fresh connection to the healthiest mast.
Install pending phone and carrier updates.
Move a metre, ideally toward a window.
Only then check the network status page with your postcode.

And when it genuinely isn't you

A whole area dead for hoursMast maintenance or a fault. Nothing on the handset helps.
Full bars, frozen dataCongestion — stations, stadiums, city centres between five and seven.
An older phone that won't call3G is gone on all four networks.
One room, alwaysBuilding materials. Wi-Fi Calling is the answer, not a complaint.
Brief odditiesEngineering works, including merger-era changes on Three.
If it keeps happening

Build a log

Dates, places, what failed, for a fortnight. Then complain in writing. Eight weeks unresolved — or a deadlock letter sooner — opens the free ombudsman route, and your log is the evidence that wins it.
