“Samsung seems to launch something every few months. Is there a right moment to buy, or is it always a lottery?”

The short answerSeveral, actually — Samsung runs three separate product calendars, which means three price-drop windows a year instead of one.
Galaxy S flagshipsLaunch early in the year; the previous S falls fast — the value window.
Fold and FlipMid-to-late-year launches; last generation's foldables soften right after.
A-series mid-rangersRefresh continuously; judge these on totals, not on launch events.
Trade-inSamsung's own programme is historically aggressive at launch windows — still take the second quote.
If you want a flagship
Buy last year's S, early in the year
Within weeks of the new S launching, the outgoing model's total drops noticeably while the hardware difference stays small.
If you want a foldable
Wait for the next generation's announcement
Foldables hold their price until a successor appears, then soften quickly. Patience is worth more here than on any other shelf.
If you want value
The A-series is always the answer
Mid-rangers refresh constantly and rarely have a dramatic 'moment'. Just run the total-cost test whenever you're ready to buy.
